Meet Shannon, one of the dog experts of Avonturia
Hi, I'm Shannon, 27 years old and I've been working at the Dog World of for over 7 years now Avonturia. It was a dream from an early age to (next to my own dogs) to do with dogs. So I immediately knew that this was a position that suited me!
In my spare time I train a lot with my own dogs; and especially Agility. I also teach Agility at a dog school and hope to be able to grow further in this later on.
Where does your passion for dogs come from?
I don't know any better than that I've always had dogs around me. I grew up with my parents' dogs from an early age. These were (and still are) Belgian Shepherds. My mother trained obedience at a high level with our Groenendaler Bandit. But at a certain point she chose to exchange obedience for the dog sport Agility.
And then the passion for the Agility sport started! When my mother had an Agility training or competition with our dog, I often went along to watch. From the sidelines I saw those small, sweet, cute and especially spicy dogs at work in the field. This is where my love for the dog breed the Sheltie started. When I was 12 I bought my very first Sheltie; Sky! And now I have 3 Shelties: Sky, Sparkle and Space, all of whom I do or have done the sport Agility with.
Shannon and her Sheltie Komomar's a Sparkling Sparkle became 1st at the Royal Canin Agility Medium Masters 2022. Together they have obtained a ticket for the EO in Denmark.
What do you like most about working with clients at Avonturia?
No day is the same Avonturia! Different customers every day, each with their own unique questions and situation. The best part is when I have helped a client and they come back a few weeks later to let them know that my advice has worked. Of course you do it all for that!
And the very, very best are the cute puppies you see one day! Really there are the most fun, studious and funniest dogs on the Dog World.
What is your specialty?
I really have a preference for the Sheltie and therefore know a lot about this nice dog breed. And from my passion and experience in the Agility dog sport I also have a lot of knowledge about this.
In the store, one of my qualities is to make customers feel comfortable. I want to build a relationship with customers so that you as a customer know that whatever question you have, whether it concerns nutrition or behavior, you can contact me.

And I really enjoy helping customers who come with their Puppy! These novice customers have a lot of questions and it gives me great satisfaction to help these customers get started so that they can make the right start with their pup.
What are the challenges you face with Avonturia?
Personally, I find my challenge in keeping the department tidy; my focus then lies in tackling and setting up the statements to take the dog world to the next level.
In addition, I see it as a challenge to help customers who are not very satisfied, within the possibilities that I have, so that they are very satisfied again afterwards.
And I really enjoy finding the right harness for a dog with a difficult fit!
Do you have a fascinating fact about dogs for us?
Did you know that by shaving (long-haired) dogs, you actually shave away their 'parasol'? Their fur is very important and plays a role in insulating.

Compare their fur a bit with a thermos: In the summer, the thermos keeps your lemonade nice and cool. In the winter it keeps your tea or coffee nice and warm. The same applies to the coat of your long-haired (with undercoat) dog.
What is a product you recommend?
A seatbelt or rather: one car bench! How important is your dog to you? Precisely! It is therefore very important that you transport your dog safely.
