Housing
Royal python are, compared to other snakes, housed fairly small. The snakes can tolerate this very well and it appears that animals eat much better than in a large terrarium. A terrarium measuring 90x45x45 CM can be used for an adult royal python. It is important to take into account that the lamps are accessible for the hose. Kingsnakes really enjoy using lights as a climbing spot when they are off and wrapping around them. If the lamps automatically turn on again, the hose will burn itself quite a bit.
The food consists mainly of rodents.
The royal pythons are beautiful animals to keep, but taking care of them can sometimes cause some problems. That is why it is very important to keep this species as good as possible. This means that temperatures are very important. Make sure the terrarium has several hiding places, two of which are filled with moist sphagnum moss. This will help with the molting of the python. In nature, the animals crawl into moist burrows for shelter, so that the skin gets enough moisture. The royal python is a smaller species of python, and can grow between 100 and 150 cm. They have a relatively large head with a slender neck. The body can be fairly thickly muscled. If the python feels threatened they will curl up into a ball with their head in the middle. The character is calm and easy to handle. The wild color is a dark brown base with yellow-brown to golden spots. This pattern is very random. This species is grown in many different colors and designs, such as:
- Albino
- Bumble bee
- Butter
- Caramel
- Spider
- Pastel
- Mojave
- piedbal
Originally, these snakes live in West Africa where they occur in somewhat diverse biotopes such as tropical forests, grasslands and savannas. Often the animals seek shelter during the day and for this purpose they prefer burrows dug by other animals. As soon as night falls, the royal python appears and will start looking for food.
